As they say, location, location, location! Your new neighborhood
should truly be your home. Here are some basics to consider
when you're deciding where you want to live:
-
Distance to your place of business, highways, public transportation
and other transit that may be an impact when you are need
to get somewhere fast.
-
How close are the basic services like grocery stores, restaurants,
shopping and the post office?
-
How far is it to hospitals and medical care? These should
be within a reasonable driving distance.
-
Where can you enjoy a day with your children? Nearby parks
and recreation facilities are helpful, especially if you
have children.
-
Quality of local schools, preschool, daycare, and colleges.
Visit the schools and ask about the student/teacher ratio,
how does the school rank amongst others in the state or
local area, college-acceptance levels, testing, athletics,
and safety. Check out both public and private schools. For
helpful information on Wichita schools, visit our School
Overview section.
-
Most importantly when you enter the neighborhood you want
it to feel like home. Your neighborhood should instantly
make you feel welcome.
It is also a good idea to drive through the neighborhood at
different times of the day and night. Listen for traffic noise,
spend time in local stores and restaurants, check out nearby
attractions, read the local paper if you are relocating from
another town. Don't be shy about speaking to your future neighbors.
Ask them how they enjoy the neighborhood and how long have they
lived there, along with other questions you may have. Remember,
they were the new kids on the block once, too! |

Downtown Wichita is surrounded by the Arkansas
